When I Was Younger

When I was younger,

I wanted to do big things -

save the world, end wars, achieve success.

Armed with passion and absolutes, 

I marched off to that rock and roll beat.

But something happened. 

Now I am older, and I just want 

to be truly and thoroughly myself;

to help where I can; 

and always, always to notice 

the first daffodil bloom in spring.

But I still march to that rock and roll beat.
